Well after calling last night and talking to a technician that actually knew what he was doing, we finally have our 2nd cable modem working…

When I called I explained that I was adding a second cable modem to our account and we picked up the home install kit from the local Comcast office. The trick was to mention you are running mac/linux and your operating system is not compatible with their installation software… Once we got that out of the way, he looked up our cable modem and did whatever he needed to on their end to allow our modem to connect to their network… it took about 28 minutes total…

so finally we have internet on our side of the apartment…
