Weekend results

Well i got part A of one of the two projects done this weekend which was the main focus of this weekend… Now i just have to finish part B by thursday and finish the other project by next firday… Shouldnt be too hard to accomplish…

Happy Halloween by the way… dont eat too much candy….

busy weekend

Well this weekend should be pretty busy… got a lot of projects to work on for school…

Ordered a new cell phone since it has been 2 years since ive had this phone… got the motorola E815… its a pretty sweet phone… bluetooth was one of the main factors in getting the phone… basically with a wireless bluetooth headset i can make phone calls and such without even touching the phone at all… Also found a couple simple hacks for the phone such as entering ##DIALUP on the phone really fast it will enable dial up access over bluetooth… since my laptop has bluetooth i can basically get online anywhere i am on the verizon network… there are also some other hacks to enable file transfer and stuff… hopefully verizon will hurry up and send me my phone…

Well class is over, g2g to the bank and deposit some cash… later….

Welcome to the ACC Boston College

VT welcomed BC to the ACC and Blacksburg last night by beating no. 13 BC 30 -10… It was an awesome game…

Before the game we met up with Trav’s uncle who was tailgating with some golfing friends… We hung out there and had some excellent hot sausage and grilled shrimp… around 7 or so we headed off to the game… We sat in the East stands for the first time… It wasnt too bad alltho i would rather be sitting in the north endzone… hopefully with next seasons’ season tickets we will get to sit in the north end zone…

We had a slow start in the red zone, only getting 2 field goals, but after going down 7-6, we came back and scored a couple of touchdowns to put us on top before halftime… over all it was a great game…

BC has been officially welcomed to the ACC and Blacksburg…

Mondays….

Its cold and rainy here… typical Blacksburg day i suppose… I like cold weather… UPDATE: When i walked out from class it was starting to snow a lil bit, just some flurries…

We have a home football game this Thursday against Boston College… thursday night games are fun but we usually only get one a season…

I have a test this wednesday in Differential Equations… Gotta start studying for that tonight… gotta do all that homwork i havent done…

Also have the 2 projects that i am working on simulatenously… got some ideas for both as far as implmentation just gotta get em down on paper and get them going… Main focus this week is the programming project and this weekend will be the hardware project…

I may need to take down the webserver for about a half hour max to program my radios for the local frequncies so i can listen in to whats going on around town… So if you cant get to the webserver, thats probably why, but drop me a line to let me know if the server is down incase it really is down…

Well i am going to go listen to the professor, later…

Well next semester is going to be fun… NOT… monday through friday i have 8ams… and they are not offered at any other times… way to go ECE dept…

got 2 projects to work on… a program to determine flight routes and i have to build a 4 bit computer… shouldnt be too hard eh?

had a physics test tonight, it went well… feeling good about it… hopefully i did as well as i think…

kinda tired… may hit the hay early tonight…

Been awhile

Its been awhile since i posted last… been pretty busy after an awesome weekend at home…

unfortunately its only going to get more busy this week… i have a test on friday for physics which covers a lot of material i have to go over and all as well as some homework assignments that i have to do which just needlessly take up time..

Got 2 posters hung up in my room which adds a lil more character to the room… ill take a picture and post it later on…

Well my current project that i am working on is building a 64 port controller for christmas lights… the project will be based on a series of shift registers which allows for pretty much limitless expansion of the system… the list to do:

  • buy chips and connectors
  • build a prototype on breadboard
  • write a program to test the prototype and determine if i can write the program using c++ using linux, otherwise ill have to go to java and relearn all that
  • build the rest of the circuit, build a controller box w/ DB9 connections for the SSRs
  • once tested and working, build 48 SSRs (already have 16 at home)
  • test SSRs
  • build rack of receptacles and control box and SSRs
  • final test

That is about how its going to go… i hope to have the controller box built by thanksgiving… atleast 16 ports of the controller box… i probably wont have time to build the rest of the SSRs… But i will have atleast 64 channels by christmas 2006 and maybe even more depending on time/money… the control box will control atleast 80 circuits…

ill post updates as the project continues…

Black Tuesday

This past tuesday was black tuesday, which is the day that Microsoft releases Windows updates…

There are about 9 critical updates….

So make sure you update your windows!

Home for the weekend…

Well i am heading home this weekend, since not much is going on here at VT and i want to see someone ;) … I will be leaving around 3:30PM putting Travis and i back in “Bad Newz” around 8PM…

This week has been pretty boring… not much going on… no projects or anything…

got 25.5/40 on Intro to Data Structures and Algorithms which isnt bad since a linux kernel developer also got the same grade… The test was kinda crappy anyways… The highest grade was 32 and the average was around 21 i think…. We are going to go over the test next class, maybe he will curve it :)

Also had a test in Fine Arts but grades havent been posted… should have done somewhat decent on it, afterall its just a pass/fail classs….

man i am tired… dont know why… maybe this class is just boring me… i already understand how to use multiplexers… they are simple…

Well i think i am going to go find something to do…. maybe play some ET, thats what ill do…

A data centers worst nightmare

UPDATE: The AC is back on and operational as well as the filter replaced…

The AC has failed… the AC sometime in the last 24 hours has frozen up solid… So currently the AC is thawing out… Turned the AC off and the fan on manual…

In response to the hot, hostile environment, the file/beyond TV server was shut down… which also is more comfortable in my room… my room is normaly hotter than the rest of the apartment due to the 3 or 4 computers constantly running…

Since the webserver is running on an old laptop and doesnt produce that much heat, i left it on for your viewing pleasure…

Upon further investigation of HVAC system, i discovered that the fan was not putting out as much air as it should have been… So i decided to pop open the air return vent and check the filter, sure enough the filter was competely covered in dust so that very little air was going through it if any… just barely touching the filter and knocking it over caused the filter to be sucked in… now that there is nothing blocking it, the fan is blowing air like it should… after Fine Arts today, i plan on going to Lowes and getting some filters…

What the filter looked like:

the countdown continues

Well i am just sitting in my last class of the day before the 3 day weekend begins…

Not much going on…

It was nice to be able to sleep in today…

Course requests for spring 2006 open up here shortly…

I have to figure out if i want to take 14 hours or get my area 2 out of the way and up that to 17 credit hours… and if i do decide to take 17, im gonna have to find a class that i will like and want to take… allthough just having 14 hours does sound tempting… I would either have to take the area 2 class sprint 2006 or fall of 2006.. those are teh two semesters that i really have an opening for them… actually looking at it, i could take the class any semester i want… but it would be easiest to do it sooner rather than later…

Plus i am going to have to look into minoring in math and/or computer science… Travis also mentioned a minor in business which doesnt seem like a bad idea either…

Well we have a intro to data structures midterm on wednesday… so ill be studying on tues night for that… remind me ;)

well class is over! the weekend is here….

this is jason signing out… stay classy VT…
