“The Burg” rant

Ok i hate it when peole say, “Back in the burg” or anything related to that… “The burg”… which freaking “burg” are you in?! Are you in Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Harrisonburg, Williamsburg, Phillipsburg, Mechanicsburg, Johnsonburg, Pittsburgh, MiddleofNowhereburg, and the other 1 millions burg cities, towns, etc…. Are you referring to 88.1FM which is “The ‘Burg” radio station at Central Washington University?

Is it really all that hard to write out your entire locations name? Or is “the burg” the cool thing to say?

There is a genius out there

Who ever wrote the winsockfix program to fix the TCP/ip settings was a genius… it saved me a lot of time tonight and instead of having to reinstall windows 2003 server, i can rest in peace knowing that my guide data can be updated!

shower, then sleep, later…

Physics Solution Manual

I have the physics solution manual for University Physics 11th Ed. by Young and Freedman online… if you require or would like access to it, just email or IM and i may be able to grant you access…

currently all of the files are in word format… it would just take too much time to make them more readable/manageable…

Test Status: 1 of 2 complete

Well i just got back from my fine arts test which i am pretty confident about… mainly becuase i only need a 60 or higher on each test in order to pass the class since its just a pass fail class :) so i am pretty sure that i got atleast 12 of the 20 questions right…

Now i need to start working on some other homework… proposal rough draft :( and i totally dont feel like doing anything the rest of the night…

but i must!

Crazy drivers

Well to prove why one should be a defensive driver, atleast in parking lots and college towns, is that not everyone knows how to drive properly… The reason i bring this up is because some girl almost got T-Boned by me today… Traffic on the left side of the road (from my POV) was stopped due to a traffic light and there was a gap for another interesection ( your not supposed to block intersections) … Well this girl decides to pull out and cut across main st while i just happen to be driving down the street in the lane of traffic that is moving… Well i guess she didnt bother to look if there was traffic in the other lane and tried to cross… luckily i was able to stop and not hit her (might have left some skid marks , ill have to go back by later to day and see if i did), but she did look pretty freakout/embarassed…

UPDATE: There appears to be about a 2 foot skid mark…

Not only do you have to be careful on main street, but in the commuter lots here… you have to watch out for people flying up and down rows and not paying attention before turning… i am surprised there are not more accidents in the commuter lots than there are now… hopefully i can avoid any accidents…

Well that was pretty much the only excitiment this morning… Class was boring… but now we are getting ready to head to the engineering expo to maybe look for some internships / co-ops… then get some lunch and have classes for the rest of the day…

well we are heading out, later…

Some interesting things i have found today

Here is a cool technological solution to a simple problem… how to prevent people from taking pictures with a digital camera? You can use the device protoyped here

Did you know that 60 percent of the 4 billion DVDs sold over the past eight years were watched only twice. To that is an astonishing number and one of the reason i do not really buy DVDs unless i really love the movie/show… but doesnt explain why i copy DVDs… but anyways, this company has come up with a solution to the DVDs second life… Its called Peerflix. Basically its a site where you can join and trade your unused DVDs. I wonder if the accept burned DVDs… 0:)

During Diff Eq, we were talking about real world models and populations models… Here is a link the teacher gave us today to a world population tracker… you can see what the current world population is and what it was on a certain date…. when i was born the population was: 4,944,677,734 (almost 5 billion) and currently the population is around: 6554349400 and is continously going up… so in the 19 plus years i have been alive, around 1.5 billion people were added to the earth… of course eventually we will come to a peak where we can no longer sustain this population growth… In class today we calculated that when the earths population is around 200,000 billion each person would have approximately 9.3 square feet of earth including the surface of the oceans and lakes and rivers… if the population was 1,800,000 billion, every person would have about 1 square foot, so if you have big feet, you would be screwed…

check your coins and make sure you dont have one of these: Quarter Eagle
If you do can i have it? :D

Georgia is charging a poll tax, NY Times article here… They require voters to have a state ID card (drivers license) which if you dont have one costs atleast $20… Itll be interesting to see what follows…

Here is a good blog about this data center that stayed online during the hurricane and the aftermath… is quite interesting… the blog can be found here.
