TGIF

Well it is Friday, yay…

finished the programming project 2a on wednesday and finished commenting during class today and submitted it a couple hours ago…

Going to work on the circuits project tonight and get that all wired up for validation on Monday and write the report up sometime this weekend or early next week…

The next programming project (2b) has been assigned so i will probably start working on that this weekend too…

Went to a google tech talk on thursday night which was pretty cool. Got to listen to some google engineers and all. Also got a really cool free tshirt, pen and sticky notepad… Hopefully someday i can work for google… they have really awesome benefits which rival just about every company out there, unless you own your own ;)

Well i am kinda hungry so i think i am going to go make some turkey sandwiches…

Been awhile

Eh, its been awhile since i have posted… been pretty busy working away on my projects… I pretty much have the circuit project done, just need to wire up the board and then write a quick report on how i designed everything the way i did… should have that finished this weekend… Kinda liked this project because it was kinda challenging implmenting the most efficent design just using NAND and INVERT gates…

As far as the programming project, i am almost done with that too… just need to implement file I/O and error checking as well as add the usual comments since i dont comment while i code which i prob should because it would save soo much time in the end and i hate commenting… I plan on finishing the programming project tonight…

What are the chances of 3 people all getting up late because they did not hear their alarms? pretty good since it happened this morning… we all got up with about 10 mins before classs started… which made it pointless to go especially since we didnt have anything due or anything… so i got to get a good nights sleep last night…

It looks like i will be going home the 15th of October… After consulting with my mom she determined that weekend to be the best time to come home… Probably be making a trip to the Gardens for Howl – O – Scream…

WVU game this weekend… you all should watch, itll be a good game….

eh lets see what else?

well class is done so i guess this post is done too…

Last Weeks Test Results

Well got back scores from last weeks tests…

  • 85/100 on Fine Arts… only need a 60 or higher on each test in order to pass that class since it is pass/fail and doesnt affect GPA…
  • 10/16 on Physics… with the T-Score thats a C+, one point away from a B-… which isnt bad considering how hard that test was…

Well i think i am going to go get some dinner….

Software Project Update

UPDATE:

  1. Subtract and Multiply operators have successfully been implemented
  2. Need to add checks for bad data
  3. Need to implement reading the polynomials in from a file

Should be getting most of that above done by tonight…

Another day in Blacksburg

Well its a typical Fall day in the burg, er blacksburg… ;) (see rant below)… its rainy and windy… although between all of my classes and lunch it has been sprinkling and i havent been caught in a down port yet *knock on wood*

Currently we are all sitting in class and the proffesor is 7 mins late… wonder if he is going to show up… ill give him a few more minutes… i believe 10 mins is the right time to wait… wait, he is here… nevermind…

Currently i am working on a couple projects for class, both of which are some what interesting… the first one is a hardware project where we have to take a binary input in the form of excess-3 and light up a 7 segment display according to the inputed number, fairly simple except for one catch, we can only use NAND gates and inverters, which actually isnt that hard just requiring more thought… The other project is a software project where we input 2 polynomials and subtract and multiply them, simple you say? well we have to used linked lists which can be tricky sometimes… I hope to finish this project tonight or tomorrow and finish the hardware project by next weekend…

In addition to the two projects, me and trav still have that annoying proposal to do… hopefully that will be the last nagging thing for engineering professionalism due for awhile…

I think i am going to go home either this weekend or the weekend of the 15th since we do not have homegames either weekend and i need a haircut and get some stuff that i forgot the last 2 times i was home and of course to see someone ;)

Well i suppose i am going to go surf the news and see whats new out there…

Just looking at their site is making me hungry…

Personal Projects

Here is a list of some personal projects that i want to do just for fun but lack the time/initive to get them done:

  1. Computer Controlled Christmas Light Display
  2. Open Source Theme Park Admissions System- Tollbooth system, Register System, Turnstile System and various applications and servers to support it
  3. Credit Card Reader
  4. RFID Tag and Reader to unlock/lock a door
  5. Spud Gun

The first one is my main focus right now… i want to get that done and get a minimal display going… its kinda hard to decorate an elaborate display being 4 hours from home and not getting home until the 16th… hopefully ill have the system ready to deploy as soon as i get home, atleast the electronic side… the high voltage side will take some work too as i need to make a lot of break out boxes… and the relays will ned A LOT of work unless i decide to just go ahead and buy them which would save a lot of time and hassle… I need to completely redesign the controller card and re wire it… hopefully i can do that while i am here at school so itll be ready in time… gotta go home and pick up all of my misc. chips, wires, tools, and stuff to get this project rolling…

As far as the Open source theme park admissions system or OTIS as i call it, that just programming work which would require relearning java and learning some other components to java… and then i would have to plan out this entire system becuase all the pieces have to talk to each other and stuff… and plan out someother features that would one up the system i used to support and may again this summer support…

the credit card reader, spud gun, and rfid reader to unlock/lock all came from Make, a geek magazine… which include plans and everything… just require money and a lil time… so those may get done before the summer…

Well i need to work on a school related programming project… need to write a copy contructor for a linked list interface class… oh the fun…

Limewire users beware… Limewire is working on code that can prohibit the download/sharing of copyrighted material unless the publisher says so… it appears that the code is already done and is awaiting intergration into the main branch(the main program)… See the slashdot article here
